Booth (Liu Laoshi)

Booth Haley started studying Chinese in high school, then earned his degree in Chinese from Wesleyan University. He subsequently spent two years living and traveling broadly in China and a year in Indonesia studying language and music. He taught English in China for a year, has spent two summers teaching sailing at a summer camp in the San Juans, and is currently a part time cross-country ski instructor. He keeps up with his language by translating Tang poetry, reading Tin Tin in Chinese, and working one shift a week at a Chinese restaurant. He likes fostering a sense of discovery in the kids that he teaches and believes that foreign language is the best way for kids to develop interest in all kinds of different people and openness to new perspectives on the world.
